It’s more than five years since Thulani ‘Evolution’ Mbenge lost the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight title and he now gets an opportunity to reclaim the crown as he faces Michael McKinson from the United Kingdom next month.

Eastern Cape-born Mbenge, who is trained by Sean Smith in Johannesburg, and McKinson are scheduled to fight against each other at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday, 19 October.

Mbenge, a two-time South African welterweight champion, lost the IBO title to German boxer Sebastian Formella in Germany in July 2019. He has chalked up five wins and a loss since losing to Formella.

Meanwhile, McKinson from Portsmouth in the UK is not a hard puncher and his record of 26 victories with four stoppages and a loss bears testimony to that. The 30-year-old Mckinson is trained bh his father Michael Ballingall.
