Japanese Junto Nakatani is a unified world champion after he overcame his compatriot Ryosuke Nishida at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday.

Nakatani stopped Nishida in the sixth round to become a unified Ring, World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion. 

Tenshin Nasukawa, meanwhile, beat Victor Santillan by a unanimous decision in the same tournament. The 26-year-old Nasukawa has won all his seven fights with two of those wins coming from knockouts.

Abdullah Mason from the United States of America (USA) remained undefeated after a fifth round technical knockout victory over Namibian Jeremiah Nakathila.

This fight was elevated to main bout following the collapse of Keyshawn Davis’ duel with Edwin de Los Santos after Davis failed to make the required weight. The bout ended early in the fifth round after a deep cut over Nakathila’s left eye forced the ringside doctor to halt the proceedings. 

Gold Coast Convention Centre, Australia 

Australian boxer Jai Opetaia took only five rounds to make sure that his fight against Claudio Squeo ended early. 

As a result of the fifth round stoppage, Opetaia retained his Ring and International Boxing Federation (IBF) cruiserweight titles. 

Conor Wallace, on the other hand, won by a unanimous decision during his fight against Dylan Colin in the same tournament.

Filipino middleweight boxer Weljon Mindoro remained undefeated following a first round knockout victory over Mexican Omar Ulises Gutierrez Munguia. 

Mindoro improved his record to 14 wins with 14 knockouts and a draw while Munguia dropped to eight victories with six stoppages, a loss and one draw.

Lwando Mgabi from Duncan Village in East London came and conquered as he stopped Sechaba Zuma in the fifth round having decked him twice in the second and fourth round. 

However, the South African junior-bantamweight title remained vacant after Mgabi lost it on thw scales following his failure to make the required weight. 

Mxolisi ‘Nation’ Zuma registered his 10th stoppage win in 10 fights after he stopped Malawian opponent Clifford Antafu in the fifth round.

Fabio Wardley became an interim World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion after he stopped Justis Huni in the 10th round.

Huni was cruising nicely and was a head on all three judges’ score cards before Wardley stopped him. 

Callum Simpson survived two knock downs before he knocked out Ivan Zucco to win the European super-middleweight title in the 10th round. And Pierce O’Leary overcame Liam Dillon via a unanimous decision.

Mike Perez from Cuba stopped Steven Ward in the ninth round and Nelson Hysa knocked out Patrick Korte in the first round. On the other hand, it was a frustrating for Sam Gilley as he drew with Gideon Onyenani. 

Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines 

Joseph Sumabong claimed the vacant Philippine GAB Youth Minimumweight Title with a unanimous decision win over Joperson Trazo.

All the three judges nodded in agreement saying that Sumabong had won by 77-75 on their score cards. 

Reymart ‘Cebuano Assassin’ Tagacanao defeated Jaysever Abcede by a fifth round technical knockout with Gerwin Asilo registering a second round knockout win over Jason Mopon while Shane Gentallan beat Jonathan Refugio by a fourth round technical knockout.
