After parties representing Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange failed to find each other and decide who should stage their fight, Boxing South Africa (BSA) has decided to go the purse bid route.

And the purse bid route is open to all promoters who are interested in staging the vacant South African junior-welterweight title fight.

Boyiya, an erstwhile SA featherweight and junior-lightweight titlist, is promoted by Mzi Booi’s Kay B Promotions while Joyce Kungwane of TLB Boxing Promotions promotes Zingange, who is a former national junior-lightweight title holder.

“BSA has decided that the fight should go to purse bids. This is an open bid for all promoters, not Kay B or TLB only,” Boyiya’s manager Kholisile ‘KC’ Cengani said.

The proposed staging of the fight ran into challenges after Boyiya signed with Kay B Promotions to promote the bout while Zingange penned a fight contract with TLB Boxing Promotions.

Initially, Boyiya had signed with Kay B Promotions to fight for the vacant SA junior-welterweight title against Sipho Mahlangu last month.

But the fight couldn’t go ahead after Zingange’s handlers fought hard, arguing that he was eligible to face off against Boyiya by virtue of him being rated second in the latest BSA ratings. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
