Errikie Errikie lived up to his pre-fight predictions as he silenced the Guild Theatre, stopping local favourite Lonwabo Sizani in the fourth round to win the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Youth junior-lightweight title on Saturday evening.
The Namibian went straight to Sizani soon after the first bell rang. Unfortunately, Sizani had no answers to whatever the Walvis Bay-born Errikie was throwing at him.
It was then no wonder that the 21-year-old International University of Management (IUM) first year transport and logistics management student dropped Sizani twice in the fourth round and fight referee Siphiwo Mbini had no alternative, but to end the proceedings.
This was the first time Mdantsane-born Sizani lost in six professional bouts. Actually, Sizani is yet to finish a bout since turning professional.
Following the win, Errikie, who is the first born in a family of eight children, improved his record to five wins with three stoppages and a loss. On the other hand, Sizani dropped to five victories with five knockouts and a defeat.
Meanwhile, Siyamthanda Mbali became the new Eastern Cape flyweight champion after he defeated Sinovuyo Mthintelwa via a split decision with Qhamani Mhlana successfully defending his provincial mini-flyweight crown following a split decision win over Athenkosi Tunzi.
Ayabulela Xatyana’s winning streak continued when he defeated Uyanda Mtongana by a second round technical knockout and Likho Sigaba beat Awonke Tini via a split decision.
Meanwhile, making his professional debut, Inathi Moyikwa from Port Alfred set a new local record when he stopped Butterworth’s Masibulele Mbumba in 19 seconds.
