Sharadene Fortuin is set to make a ring return five months after successfully defending her South African female bantamweight title as she will face off against Zambian boxer Alice Mbewe next month.

Fortuin clashes with Mbewe in a vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International female bantamweight title contest at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City on Saturday, 23 May.

Seymour-born Fortuin, who is trained by Lonwabo Witbooi in KuGompo City, will go to the Mbewe fight on the back of a win over Thema Zuma in Cape Town in December last year. That was Fortuin’s third defence of her SA title.

Before her fight against Zuma, the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental female bantamweight titlist hadn’t fought for more than two years as her last fight was against Zimbabwean opponent Patience Mastara in September 2023.
