A fight that the KwaZulu-Natal boxing family has tried to avoid for some time seems unavoidable now after Lindokuhle Khuzwayo sent a challenge form to Boxing South Africa (BSA) challenging reigning South African featherweight champion Lindelani Sibisi.
Dundee-born Sibisi is fresh from a first successful defence of his title following a unanimous decision victory over Bongani Fule at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City this past Saturday.
“Don’t worry about Hem. Lindokuhle Khuzwayo has submitted a challenge. Sibisi is getting called out and knockout out,” Khuzwayo’s trainer Sean Smith said.
Khuzwayo, who has seven wins with five stoppages and a draw, said: “I lodged a challenge before Sibisi fought against Fule. I made it clear that I wanted to face the winner of their bout. I hope that Sibisi will accept my challenge.”
Maphumulo-born Khuzwayo, who turns 23 in August, has not fought since he won the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa featherweight title following a second round of Nigerian boxer Riliwan Owolabi Lawal in November.
Khuzwayo’s fight against Sibisi might take place in Johannesburg in July if the SA champion accepts the challenge. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
