A leading KwaZulu-Natal boxing promoter has welcomed the idea of a fight between reigning South African featherweight champion Lindelani Sibisi and Lindokuhle Khuzwayo from Maphumulo.
Speaking after Khuzwayo revealed that he had challenged Sibisi, Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotions (HDBP) boss Hlula Dladla said that a fight between the two boxers would help re-ignite KwaZulu-Natal boxing. Khuzwayo revealed his challenge after Dundee-born Sibisi successfully defended his title against Bongani Fule at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City last Saturday.
“This is a fight that I have not dreamt of. However, it will be a nice KZN derby when we ultimately make a final decision with Sibisi’s manager Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan. As soon as the challenge is confirmed, we will take it from there because we remain as the promoters of Lindelani Sibisi. I think Khuzwayo should be given an opportunity,” Dladla said.
Dladla reckons that a fight between the KwaZulu-Natal boxers will attract more interest just like when Azinga Fuzile defeated Asanda Gingqi at the Orient Theatre in KuGompo City last month.
“We will consider the opportunities in front of us. This fight will be in the same magnitude as the one between Gingqi and Fuzile,” Dladla remarked. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
