Proteas seamer Lutho Sipamla from Port Elizabeth announced his arrival in Test cricket taking four wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka played in Centurion.

The 22-year-old Sipamla took three of the four wickets on day two of the Test having leaked 76 runs with one maiden in the 16 overs he bowled.  Dhananjaya de Silva, Kasun Rajitha, Vishwa Fernando and
Lahiru Kumara were Sipamla’s victims.

The Sri Lankans, who had scored 340 at stumps on day one, hit 396 runs for nine in 96 overs in their first innings.

Meanwhile, Proteas’ opening batsmen Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram had a storming start hitting run after run to reach a partnership of 141.

Markram was the first to go when he fell victim to Fernando and walked with 68 runs after facing 94 deliveries. On the other hand, Elgar was caught and bowled by Dasun Shanaka six runs shy of a century having faced 130 balls.

At stumps, the Proteas were 317 for four in 72 overs with Faf du Plessis on 55 and Temba Bavuma on 41.
