Playing better in their second Group A match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Bafana Bafana held Czechia to a 1-1 draw at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America (USA) on Thursday evening, South African time.

Having started the tournament on a bad note as they were beaten 2-0 by Mexico on Thursday last week, it looked like the South Africans were going to lose their second game when Michal Sadílek gave Czechia the lead after he beat Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams in the a sixth minute following poor defending by the South African.

However, Teboho Mokoena, who will miss the last Group A match against Korea Republic next week after receiving two yellow cards, equalised for Bafana from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute. Match referee Tori Penso awarded Bafana the penalty after Pavel Sulc handled the ball inside the box.
