Orlando Pirates started the defence of their Betway Premiership trophy with a 2-0 win over top-flight newcomers, Milford FC, at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers took the lead when their star midfielder Oswin Appollis’ attempt from a free kick outside the box kissed the back of the net in the 24th minute.
And the Soweto giants increased their lead through Tshepang Moremi’s goal four minutes before full-time.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu also had a bright start to the season with a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban with Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya netting the only goal of the match in the 59th minute.
And Eastern Cape side, Chippa United, held Lamontville Golden Arrows to a goalless draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.
