Quinton de Kock does not mind continuing as Proteas Test captain as long as the right candidate has not been identified and appointed.
De Kock led the Proteas when they whitewashed the Sri Lankans 2-0
after beating them by an innings and 45 runs in the first Test in Centurion and defeating them by 10 wickets in second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The win was crucial for the Proteas as it helped them move two places from eighth to sixth spot on the ICC World Test Championship table.
‘‘It was pretty cool. Things will stay the way as it is unless they find someone who can take over. If needs be I will go along,’’ the
Proteas wicket-keeper batsman said.
‘‘I think our batters were pretty much doing the job. We had such a young bowling line-up, all of them are still fairly new to Test line-up. They bowled really well.’’
Next up for the Proteas is a visit to Pakistan where they are going to play in a two-Test series and three Twenty20 internationals 14 years since their last trip to the Asian country. The Proteas beat the Pakistanis 1-0 in a two-Test series there in 2007.
‘‘I’m excited to get over there and play cricket in what will be a new challenge. But the off-field stuff is another type of challenge,’’ the 28-year-old De Kock said.
Proteas coach Mark Boucher made his national team debut against Pakistan in 1997 and should be able to advise his players accordingly.
The Proteas are going to leave for Pakistan on Friday, 15 January.
‘‘To be honest I’m not too sure, we will see when we get there and assess everything. Boucher’s experience will be handy when we get there,’’ said De Kock.
‘‘We have a week now. Then we leave on the 15th, we are gonna be home only for two weeks in the next three months.’’
