Retired Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has congratulated George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos Junior after the Australian defeated Teofimo Lopez at the Hulu Theatre in Madison Square Garden, New York City, United States, on Sunday morning (South African time).
Kambosos Jr won the World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’, International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organisation (WBO), World Boxing Council (WBC) Franchise and The Ring belts by a split decision.
“Congratulations to my friend on an epic win. You helped me in so many of my past fights. I hope our hundreds of rounds of sparring helped in some way. I’m proud of you,” the Filipino congressman said.
After both boxers had kissed the canvas during their battle, two judges had Kambosos Jr winning by 115-111 and 115-112 while the third gave it to Lopez on 114-113.
