Struggling Chippa United have appointed Belgian Luc Eymael after they fired coach Lehlohonolo Seema on Wednesday following a string of poor results.

Seema’s sacking by the Chilli Boys has always been a matter of when, especially with the Port Elizabeth-based club struggling to win matches.

The Chilli Boys have only won once in eight matches since the 2020/21 season started in October.

The fact that the Chilli Boys have lost five times and drawn twice didn’t sit well with their chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi, who finally pulled the trigger and shown Seema the door.

Normally, Mpengesi fires coaches just after five matches if they are not doing well and Seema was lucky to survive this far.

On the other hand, Eymael is no stranger to the Premier Division having coached Polokwane City, Free State Stars and Black Leopards.

The 61-year-old Belgian’s first match in charge at the Chilli Boys is going to be against SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday, 6 January 2021.

‘‘Our ambition was to have an improved season in comparison to how the team has been fighting relegation in the past few campaigns. One of Mr Eymael’s responsibilities is a top eight finish for this season. This is where the club board can also decide on his longer term contract with the team,’’ Mpengesi said.

Meanwhile, Seema, a former Lesotho international, is the fifth coach to bite the dust since the DStv Premiership season started in October.

Dan Malesela (TS Galaxy), Ayanda Dlamini (AmaZulu), Eric Tinkler (Maritzburg United) and Patrick Aussems (Black Leopards) were all fired from their jobs.
