Moroccan Soufiane El Bakkali won a gold medal in the men’s 3000-metre steeplechase at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan on Monday afternoon. 
The 25-year-old Bakkali is the first non-Kenyan gold medallist in the 3000m steeplechase since 1980. Bakkali, who won in 8:08,90, is also the first Moroccan to win gold in this event. 
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Lamecha Girma finished second in 8:10,38 while Benjamin Kigen from Kenya came third in 8:11,45.
