AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy is not satisfied with his team’s performance after a goalless draw with Swallows FC at King’s Park in Durban on Wednesday evening.
Commenting after the match, McCarthy lamented the standard of play dished out by his team.
“Tough one. Swallows won two games. They beat (Orlando) Pirates, they beat Royal AM. They are on the high. Their coach got the players he wanted. They look fantastic,” McCarthy said.
“We are finding our feet. Some of the new guys are still trying to settle in the team.”
Even though McCarthy said that his players’ performance was not too bad, he insisted that that was not the usual AmaZulu standard.
“We started slowly. We can’t afford to let games like this slip away from us,” he said.
“I’m afraid creativity in the team has not been on par. Second half we were better. We moved the ball, we looked like a team that was winning the game. We were up against a very good team, an experienced team.”
Meanwhile, Dube Birds coach Brandon Truter believes that they should have won the match in the first 45 minutes.
“First half we should have come up with a goal. But second half I think it was even. AmaZulu wanted to win it, we also wanted to win it,” Truter said.
