Thobela FM sport commentator, producer and presenter Hodi Tsamago will always be a teacher whether he is in the classroom or behind the microphone.

Tsamago always knew even before joining Thobela FM that he would work on radio one day. This is so even though his journey to Thobela FM took longer than he expected it to be.

“I went to Mothapo Primary School where I started my long journey in education,” Tsamago said.

After passing matric at Tshebela High School, Tsamago wanted to become a sport commentator just like his idols Jimmy Mohlaloga and Rudolph Letswalo. However, his friends discouraged him.

“My love for sport and radio strengthened my belief that I would become a commentator one day. My journey to Thobela FM went via Mohodi community radio,” Tsamago remarked.

The 43-year-old Tsamago never gave up on his dream to work at Thobela FM and his big break came just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

“I joined Thobela FM before the 2010 World Cup working as a studio continuity sport presenter. I worked very hard and my dedication resulted in me getting a chance to do commentary,” Tsamago, who is busy with his PhD, revealed.

The award-winning Tsamago still continues with his day job as a mathematics and physical science educator. He has won several awards as the best physical science educator in the Bohlaloga District.

As a token of appreciation to his community, the married father of two has adopted some learners from the Capricorn District where he mentors and supports them with their school needs.

Tsamago counts working in different productions like the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals, 2013 CHAN finals, 2014 World Cup finals, EURO 2016 and the 2018 World Cup finals as some of the highlights of his broadcasting career.

Apart from doing commentary, Tsamago produces a sport show between 19h00 and 19h45 from Monday to Friday.
