South African junior-flyweight champion Mpumelelo Tshabalala believes that given a chance he can smoke two-time world titlist Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga.

Speaking on TKO Boxing Magazine show on SABC 2 on Friday, Tshabalala said that his main aim is to fight against Nontshinga, who is the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion.

“I’m coming for Nontshinga. Step by step, if anything happens, I’m coming for him,” the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-flyweight titlist said.

Even his trainer Peter Malinga also reckons that Tshabalala can stand his own against the 25-year-old Nontshinga.

“I think the young boy is ready now. We are comfortable that we can take on Nontshinga if that opportunity comes,” Malinga, a former SA, World Boxing Union (WBU) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight champion, said.

Tshabalala, who is rated number nine by the WBO, has lost only once in his career. He lost to Siphamandla Baleni in an SA junior-flyweight title fight in October 2021 and has won five times since that loss.
