The National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) has decided to appeal the North Gauteng High Court ruling in the case it brought against Minister of Sport Kodwa, Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, Boxing South Africa (BSA) and Mandla Ntlanganiso.

The NPBPA went to court following Kodwa’s appointment of Ntlanganiso as BSA accounting authority. The NPBPA wanted Ntlanganiso’s appointment to be declared irregular and invalid.

The court found that the NPBPA had no right to take Kodwa, Godongwana, BSA and Ntlanganiso to court because the NPBPA was not compliant in terms of section 28 (3) and (4) of the Boxing Act. The NPBPA lacked the capacity to appear in court.

“The NPBPA respectfully opines that the Honourable Judge erred and misdirected herself in finding that the NPBPA lacks/lacked the necessary locus standi to bring the application before court for many reasons the NPBPA cannot share at this moment,” the NPBPA said.

“After careful and diligent consultation with its attorneys (who further consulted with the two counsels on brief), the NPBPA’s national executive committee has resolved to appeal the Judge’s/court’s decision.”
