Orlando Pirates added more woes to struggling Chippa United when they
beat them 1-0 in a DStv Premiership match played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday night.

Fortune Makaringe scored Pirates’ goal following a pass from former Chilli Boys midfielder Linda Mntambo in the 86th minute.

The Chilli Boys played the entire second half of the game with 10 men after match referee Thando Ndzandzeka had sent Sandile Mthethwa for an early shower in the 44th minute.

Ndzandzeka adjudged Mthethwa to have elbowed Pirates’ Deon Hotto even though it was clear that Hotto ran into Mthethwa’s elbow while trying to fight for the ball.

This was the second successive match that the Chilli Boys finished with 10 men as they suffered the same fate when they lost 2-1 to Baroka FC recently. Mduduzi Sibeko was sent off in the match against Bakgaga.

The Buccaneers were forced to make an early substitution after Zakhele
Lepasa got injured and his place was taken by Gabandinho Mhango in the fifth minute.

The win took Pirates to third place with 13 points while the Chilli Boys are stuck in 14th position on the DStv Premiership table with five points. Both sides have played seven matches.

This loss is going to put more pressure on Chilli Boys coach Lehlohonolo Seema as he has only won once, drawn twice and lost four times since the season started in October.
