Cape Town boxer, Wasim ‘Kleurling’ Chellan, is seeking revenge and has already sent a challenge form, challenging reigning South African welterweight champion, Phaphama Rhonorhono.

With Chellan having challenged the Mthatha-born Rhonorhono, a date for the fight is already being bandied about.

“Wasim has already submitted a challenge for our title. The fight is scheduled for the 31st of October,” Rhonorhono’s trainer, Madoda ‘One More Time’ Dyonase, revealed.

Rhonorhono has not fought since he stopped Chellan in the second round to win the then vacant SA welterweight title in Wynberg, Cape Town, last September. On the other hand, Chellan has bounced back beautifully, registering three straight knockout wins.

Meanwhile, Rhonorhono was due to have made the first defence of his title against Jabulani Makhense, but their fight fell through at the last minute on two occasions.

This past weekend’s bout was called off after Makhense failed to make the required weight and opted to go eat at the nearest restaurant instead of reducing weight before their scheduled fight at Event City Middelburg in Mpumalanga.

And failure to deposit purse monies also resulted in Rhonorhono’s fight against Makhense, which was going to be held in Malamulele last month, being cancelled. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
